The coolest baja dog I've come across (not the little one, that tried to bite my shoe, and should have kicked it across the street) |
Total distance on the odo before changing the batteries (includes side trips, detours, rest days, etc - not direct route, from Alaska) |
New addition to the gear, makes cooking so much easier. Thanks a lot Wyatt! |
Long-travel I-beam ranger... right on |
Lots of checkpoints, checking traffic both ways |
I never know what I'll come across trying to find a camp spot for the night |
Hearty veggy stew (getting my irish-potato fix) |
All sorts of strange things that can be deadly to tires |
Old volcano |
First glimpse of the Sea of Cortez of the trip |
Great view, and actually prison down on the right corner |
My favorite town in baja so far, Mulege is muy tranquilo |
Antulio working his magic |
Mulege is like an oasis |
Came around a corner and saw this. I stopped for a while just absorbing the view - truly magnificent |
What a place to have lunch and go for a swim |
Just another day in the office |
Sunrises are great |
Found some great Mexican coffee - heard there wasn't any... |
Enjoying a day off, jamming in the shade |
Canadian RV'ers camping nearby. Nigel on the left (and his wife) cooked me a fabulous dinner, thanks! |
Different Puerto - with no waves |
Staying cool. Big reason why people say not to drive at night; the animals cross the roads looking for food when it cools. |
Climbing over "Sierra De La Giganta" - the name says it all |
Taking cover whenever/wherever I can |
There's always something on the roads down here that could turn any day bad instantly. |
Lots of things like this floating around on the landscape, have to be really careful wheeling my bike across the dirt |
Nothing like some good Iranian tea. Thanks Azam! |
Occasionally people ask me what I eat. Here is a good little something I've made a few times:
Such good cheap tortillas down here. Even just a little oil in the pan with some of these is satisfying |
Roll it up, and sizzle in the pan until the outside is browned nicely |
Time to devour |
Add a little kick if you like |
Not a lot of good chocolate to choose from down here. Like always, gotta improvise. Getting my chocolate fix, in a medium of milk |
Martin and his son Julian. He made this massive bbq when he lived in Texas. He was very kind, and gave me a soda and some cookies, gracias! |
Tortilleria in the grocery store... awesome |
The bigger cities have a road that cuts through the middle, to avoid the congestion near the buildings and side roads |
Always such a project to get packed up |
The most elaborate road-side shrine I've seen yet |
Hot day. That's not water reflecting the headlights, a mirage. You can see the radiation emanating from the ground |
Enough said |
Keeping the ponys away from my food |
Homemade machaca, drying in the sun |
Benjamin, up early working hard |
Benjamin's parents. They invited me in for breakfast before I left |
I don't even know these guys. They just wanted a picture when they saw me taking others. |
This tree is begging for a touring cyclist to take lunch under |
First view of La Paz |
Come a long way |
Chasing my shadow into town |
Hanging with CS'ers Peter and Suzy |
Frigate birds. Never saw these before until Sea of Cortez. These massive birds just hang in the sky. |
From my boat trip in Guerrero Negro:
Taking a lancha to the whales. Calm morning - nice. |
Gueros(?) rare bird apparently |
Sometimes they blow off a massive amount, and you'll see a big boil |
Occasionally see them pop out of the water to look around, or "spyhopping", really weird to see. Sometimes they hang there for a few seconds. |
Saying hello. They are either very curious, intelligent, or a bit of both I think. This one came right up to the boat. |
The lagoon for the whales is very protected. The open area nearby is used extensively for processing salt - big business. |
What I hope is waiting for me in Mainland Mex:
